Eaton Regional Education Service Agency Finances Stable
Strong district leadership results in clean audit
Charlotte, MI - Under new leadership at Eaton Regional Education Service Agency’s (RESA), there has been significant change in the way the district manages its finances with regard to checks and balances.
This fall, the district went through a financial audit as is required by law. In October, the contracted firm, Maner Costerisan presented the findings to Eaton RESA’s Board of Education. Eaton RESA would like to announce to community stakeholders that the audit showed no findings this year.
Dave Nielsen, CPA, Senior Manager of Maner Costerisan said, “the management of Eaton RESA worked extremely hard to accomplish their goal of providing accurate and complete financial information for the year ended June 30, 2016. The results were evident throughout the audit which produced an unmodified opinion with no reportable findings.”
“Education finance is very complex. Good systems, which are consistently applied, are essential to assure compliance with state and federal regulations,” said Janet Yachim, Director of Business and Finance at Eaton RESA. “This has been a large undertaking but we have put together a business office team of knowledgeable, highly qualified staff that are dedicated to maintaining systems which produce accurate, timely, and transparent results.”
Eaton RESA’s financial health was once a concern expressed by key stakeholders. Many processes and procedures have been put in place to ensure the district continues to strengthen its fiscal integrity.
“Eaton RESA’s priority is to serve the needs of our districts and their students. Our financial health and fiscal stewardship are critical to the success of our organization and those we serve. We acknowledge the prior challenges that existed but have moved forward to effectively use and manage our resources to meet the needs of our districts and students,” said Cindy Anderson, Superintendent of Eaton RESA.
