Aviation Students Explore Drone Technology
Students from the Eaton RESA Aviation Careers Institute (ACI) recently got a glimpse into one of aviation's fastest-growing frontiers- drone technology.
Dr. Surya S. C. Congress and Judd Herzer, researchers from Michigan State University's Mobility Research and Innovation Department visited with ACI students to explore how drone technology is being used to tackle real-world engineering challenges. Students learned how unmanned aerial systems are deployed to survey infrastructure, evaluate safety conditions, and generate detailed 3D renderings of roads, railways and bridges.
For ACI students, the experience showed them another career possibility that extends well beyond the cockpit. The intersection of aviation and civil engineering represents a growing field where skilled drone operators, data analysts and aerial imaging specialists are in high demand.
The visit also marks the launch of a new partnership between the Eaton RESA ACI and MSU's Mobility Research and Innovation Department, connecting students with university-level research and the professionals driving innovation in transportation infrastructure.
