Free Preschool Applications Open for 2023-2024 School Year

Eaton County Great Start Readiness Program has openings for 4 year-olds

Charlotte, MI- Eaton County Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is now enrolling students to begin preschool in fall 2023. The program is open to 4 year-old children in Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Grand Ledge, Maple Valley and Potterville school districts.

GSRP is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program administered by the Michigan Department of Education. GSRP classrooms are located in each school district throughout Eaton County and offer students play-based learning, socialization and school readiness.

“Research shows that high-quality preschool programs, like GSRP, help children to become more successful when they enter school, as well as improve health and learning outcomes over a lifetime,” said Jennifer McCaffery, Director of Early Childhood and GSRP principal.

Eaton RESA, the administrator of the GSRP program for Eaton County, uses the Connect 4 Learning curriculum, which focuses on learning domains including language development, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, social and emotional development, and physical health and development. Connect 4 Learning is a research-based curriculum, along with an internet-based child assessment system to measure progress and ensure continued improvement.

To qualify for GSRP for the 2023-2024 school year, children must be 4 years-old before December 1, 2023. GSRP classrooms operate Monday through Thursday and at no cost to many families with transportation provided in most districts.
