Free Teacher Seminars with Teaching American History Coming to Eaton RESA on October 29
Eaton RESA is partnering with Teaching American History to host two free seminars for middle and high school teachers on Thursday, October 29. Both run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Teachers should register for only one seminar and the training is open to any middle or high school teacher in any school district.
These seminars offer classroom teachers the chance to learn directly from history scholars and experts. Instead of a traditional lecture, discussion leaders guide conversation-based sessions built around primary source documents. Participants receive readings in advance and are encouraged to review them and come with questions. Many attendees compare the experience to an engaging college course.

African Americans: Culture, Art, and Politics- Recommended for middle and high school History, ELA, or Art educators
Led by Dr. Kathy Pfeiffer of Oakland University, this session examines key milestones in the African American experience through speeches, essays, and literature. Participants will explore literary and political expressions surrounding slavery, emancipation, modernity, and civil rights, and consider the role of gender in the evolution of African American identity.

Westward Expansion: Recommended for middle and high school U.S. History teachers
Led by Dr. Dennis Bowman of American Intercontinental University, this session investigates America's push toward the Pacific and the concept of "Manifest Destiny." Topics include the motivations for westward expansion, Jackson's Indian Removal Policy, and its broader impact on slavery.
