Eaton RESA Re-Opens Southridge Center
Eaton RESA has announced the re-opening of a newly renovated facility specifically designed for early childhood staff called Southridge Center.
Southridge Center, which is located at 311 West First Street in Charlotte, and used to be to known as Southridge Elementary School, has been undergoing renovations since the April 2018. The building now houses offices for close to 30 staff members who provide a variety of early childhood services and supports to young children, birth to age 8 across Eaton County.
In March of 2018, the Board of Education approved the sale of bonds in the amount of $3.3 million for the purpose of renovating district facilities. $1 million of the proceeds were designated for the purpose of renovating and upgrading Southridge Center in order to create a hub for early childhood programming, services and staff. In addition to staff offices, the space includes a conference/training room and a playgroup area for various early childhood program activities. The project included:
- new exterior doors
- removal of a portable office/classroom building
- interior remodeling
- new flooring throughout the building
- furniture and fixtures
- technology upgrades
- new signage
- site upgrades - sidewalks and parking lot
The official Open House and Ribbon Cutting took place on October 17 at the Southridge Center. Superintendent, Cindy Anderson was joined by the Eaton RESA Board of Education, Charlotte Mayor, Tim Lewis, representatives from the architecture and construction firms Kingscott and CSM as well as Eaton RESA staff and community.
