It is the responsibility of the Special Education Department to ensure the adequate provision of services to meet the needs of educationally handicapped students within Eaton County. Recognizing and respecting the needs of individuals and organizations, this department shall work in a cooperative manner with its local and state constituencies, utilizing the available resources in the most effective manner possible.
It is the belief of Eaton County Special Education Administrators that a system of mutual support and cooperation between districts is crucial if we are to meet the needs of special services in the future. Cooperative actions will prevail in issues involving planning, evaluation, programming, services, training, operations, and finance.
It is further believed that special and general education share the responsibility to create a "normalized" educational environment for all students, decisions will be made in the best interests of students and programs so all students are served in the least restrictive and most cost-effective manner possible, and a full continuum of options and choices must be developed and maintained.
